Drum mower is mainly used for cutting pasture. Each drum has three knives, which can be changed quickly with a simple tool. The hay cut by the knives is carried between the drums and put in a loosely laid swath. Three V—belts transmit power to the input gear shaft, then to the main drive shaft, which in turn drives the drums through the bevel gears.

The high speed of the drums (1720rpm) makes it imperative that the drums are equally heavy on all sides so they are in balance.
